External Numbers

An external number is an external SIP or MS Teams device that handles a call to an extension β€” typically a mobile phone. Go to Settings β†’ Devices β†’ External numbers to manage them.

This page is the field reference. For choosing between the device types and the end-to-end setup, see How Devices Work and Set Up Calling for Your Agents.

What Is the Difference Between an Extension and a Device?

An external number is one kind of device. For how extensions and devices relate, see How Devices Work.

External Number Details

Set up your external number:

Setting Description
Device / Number Enter your external number including the prefix. It cannot be changed later.
Description (optional) Enter a description to make it easier to identify the number.
Available for dynamic selection Turn on to make this device available for agents to select dynamically from the navbar. Turn off to only make it possible to assign the device from Settings β†’ Users β†’ List of Users.
External type Select SIP if your external number is a phone number such as a mobile phone. The Microsoft Teams option applied up to version 6.19.x only β€” on current versions, set up your MS Teams clients in the separate MS Teams Devices module instead.

Working With Devices

When you have set up your device, assign it to a user in Settings β†’ Users β†’ List of Users or make it available for agents to pick themselves β€” see Permanent Assignment vs Dynamic Selection.
